Columbus cares

When your heart is in the community, giving back comes naturally

With over 70 cafes Nationwide and proudly New Zealand owned and operated, we believe that giving back to our local communities and National Charities is a vital part of our business. We do this by supporting local charities, schools, sports teams & clubs and various other organisations, as well as our long-time partnership with Cure Kids and new partnerships with other National Charities.

We care about our community

Cure Kids

Since 2011 we have supported Cure Kids and during this time we have raised over $350,000 that has gone towards funding research into diseases and health conditions that affect Kiwi kids Nationwide. We have supported Cure Kids through their annual Red Nose Day appeal in our cafes, raising money through our ‘add what you can’ campaigns. Our local Owners have also been creative in organising their own fundraising initiatives in store throughout the year.

Pork Pie Charity Run

The Pork Pie Charity Run is a bi-annual fundraising road trip for MINI lovers and Columbus Coffee are proud sponsors of the Bonodley’s team. The charity run raises money for Kids Can, with the last trip raising over $450,000 to go towards providing Kiwi kids with the essentials they need.

Kindness Collective’s PJ Project

Each year, selected Columbus Coffee stores are drop off points for the Kindness Collectives annual PJ Project. Customers can donate new pj’s in store which are distributed in the local area to children in need.

Sustainability

We care about our planet

In 2018, we switched all our takeaway packaging including our straws, containers, serviettes and cups to environmentally friendly options. We encourage our customers to only use straws and cup carriers if they are needed to remove wastage. We also joined the NZ Packaging Forum to help drive more composting and recycling waste collection and processing facilities around New Zealand as there’s currently still a shortage.

In 2023, we transitioned our Columbus Rewards Cards from heavy plastic to an environmentally friendly cardboard stock, reflecting our commitment to sustainability. This change helps reduce long-term waste while continuing to offer the same great benefits. We then implemented the same to our Gift Cards.

Better Chicken

Columbus Coffee is dedicated to upholding the highest ethical and sustainable standards when it comes to our chicken offering.

By 2026, we are fully committed to ensuring that every single portion of chicken we utilise meets or exceeds the stringent benchmarks set forth by the Australia-New Zealand Better Chicken Commitment standards, to do our part in advocating for a more sustainable and humane approach to food production.

Coffee Grounds for your Ground

Did you know that coffee grounds are very versatile? From pest repellent to garden fertilizer, to body scrub and everything in between. Many of our cafés offer used coffee grounds to their customers to take home and reuse your garden or however you like. If you’re interested, ask your local Columbus Coffee if you can have some used coffee grounds next time you visit!
